This was good advice 5 years ago but for those just getting started and want to make money now, its bad.
So what's good advice?
Picking Your Battle
If you sell business opportunities, weight loss, alternative health, loans or credit cards, you will be in a big fight for because they are very lucrative markets.
Find a second class keyword that isn't getting as much attention as the obvious ones.
If you are competing with weight loss, you may want to go with natural weight loss programs or pharmaceutical weight loss pills.
When doing this, you can become king of the smaller market and work your way up.
Bid on the 1 keyword and start refining the ads and measuring the results for that keyword.
Do little things that people may not even really be aware of but react differently to.
You will start out with a higher lead cost, however as you continue to refine everything, the cost per lead should decline dramatically within days.
They put up artificial barriers to new advertisers-because those guys come and go all day long.
