Everyone deals with it sooner or later but a traffic stop can be a stressful situation. The moment you see those dreaded flashing lights and begin to pull over place your hands on either the dashboard or normal position on the steering wheel. Next turn your interior lights on and remain still as the cop approaches.. As the officer is strolling up ensure he can see your hands and don't shift them until he asks for your license and registration. If you start moving and fidgeting around he is going to think you're either concealing something or getting a weapon. The cop accusing you of concealing something wouldn't be the friendliest way to start things up. Attempt to make eye contact and be as respectful as possible when talking to him. Police take a lot of pride in their work so acknowledging this will make him more lenient. Once the officer asks you if you know what you did wrong be truthful if you really have no idea tell him you're not sure, but if you were obviously speeding then admit your wrongdoings and tell him it will not happen again. Police officers are people too and the best possible way to beat a ticket is to handle them as a human. If pity doesn't make him change his mind, attempt to convince him you are going to slow down from now on. Remember he is human and the best thing to do is to remind him that you’re human too. Although they have most likely heard it a million times try to come up with a reasonable excuse for your conduct; whether it be the big conference at work or dinner at mom's house. Most cops have almost certainly been in the same situation and will appreciate where you're coming from. Sometimes informing the officer know you know someone in the force will help get you out of trouble, The officer is going to feel guilt if he gives a ticket to one of his co-workers family members or friends. If you have any story with regards to someone you know in the police force now would be the best time to tell it. As shameless as it may feel bringing up any charity that you have made towards the police force may help him reexamine your ticket. Even after all of this the officer is still convinced you need a ticket don't lose your temper or curse him, because you will be seeing him once more in court. Give the officer a pleasant farewell and leave the scene carefully.
