Why do I need a private investigator?
The first investigations agency in the United States started in 1850, the Pinkerton National Detective agency started as a security and Investigations Company. In 1850, Allan Pinkerton became well know when he was able foil the plot to assassinate president elect Abraham Lincoln.
Pinkerton agents enforced strikes, and tracked outlaws. The term “private eye” was coined from the Pinkerton agency catch phrase “we never sleep”.
In modern day society the craft of “private eye” has evolved and changed with the times.
The various names for a “private eye” such as private investigator, detective, investigator can be many. With increasing technology, the scope of a “private eye” is vast.
The investigator has many investigative methods, but the old time tested surveillance is the main way to gather information.
Surveillance enables the investigator to observe, document, and log activities of the “subject”. The subject’s activities are recorded though a variety of sources such as video, photos, or time log.
Depending on the type of investigation i.e. fraud, insurance work, copy write infringement, or marital discord the level documentation may vary.
Photographs of documented infidelity may be necessary while a time line of a subject’s activity may be the only documentation a particular client wants. While another case might call for legally placed gps tracking devices, video, and photographs for a court hearing.
Computerized databases can be used for many investigations such as obtaining location, criminal histories, and data associated with certain indivduals. Many things can be uncovered by just knowing who, what, and where. Sometimes data bases legally subscribed to by licensed indivduals can provide this information. They can be quite helpful for locating missing individuals, that long lost heir to a will, an old high school boyfriend, or even a birth parent.
Many investigators can be used to locate and interview witnesses in court proceedings. Often times investigators can do leg work associated with criminal and civil cases that overloaded court and law enforcement personnel can not complete. A recent Austin case is an example of where an individual convicted of a crime was exonerated and discharged from jail based on legwork done by and experienced investigator.
So if there is something you want to know chances are that a private investigator can help you find the answers. Many times clients will find closure with answers to unanswered questions. That is by far the best compliment an investigator can receive.
