It has been nearly a century since Nikola Tesla patented his fuelless electrical generator at a time when there was a lot of controversy and competition among the newly formed electrical power companies.
The two main electric companies were Westinghouse and General Electric and they invested huge sums of money into plant and equipment to make a very profitable business in generating electricity to businesses and householders.
There is a lot of information in the form of academic papers and letters that document Tesla's various electrical inventions.
Throughout the 1890's Tesla was working on other methods for generating power including a charged particle collector which he patented in 1901.
A few years later in 1909 Tesla registered a patent for Turbine and a little later a Dynamo Electric machine.
The New York Times ran a story in 1902 about an inventor who claimed that they had invented an electrical generator that did not require an external fuel supply.
Nikola Tesla announced in the Brooklyn Eagle on July 10th, 1931 that he had harnessed the cosmic rays and caused them to operate a motive device and in the same article he stated that he had been working on this device for more than 25 years and that he had now succeeded.
Tesla stated that "this new power for the driving of the world's machinery will be derived from the energy which operates the universe, the cosmic energy, whose central source for the earth is the sun and which is everywhere present in unlimited quantities".
The need for the development of new and alternative resources for fuel is far greater now than it was at the end of the last century.
