Since time immemorial women have been established as the fairer and the prettier sex. Men have vied for the attention of the fairest lady and the not so lucky ladies have always spent hours trying to be the prettiest one. Since as early as the days of Cleopatra beauty enhancing products have therefore been an integral part of every woman’s life.
It’s no surprise therefore, that the 21st century has seen a myriad of beauty products being offered to the fairer sex. The mantra of every product seems to silently scream out, hey lady you just are not doing it right unless you are doing it with our product. Lipsticks, lipglosses, lipliners, eyepencils, liquid eyeliners, kajal, mascara, false eyelashes, eyelash curlers, hair colours, instant highlighters, permers, straighteners, nail polishes, French manicure kits, nail filers, nail buffers, the list is so huge and so endless that it would be hard to mention it all. Surely by the time the list would be completed some new product would be ready to hit the market. And then there is this additional concept of beauty from within.
The latest addition: As if it was not enough that women are spoilt for choice in make up, now there is the concept being aggressively promoted that real beauty comes from within. No not the spiritual kinds: the kind that comes from having a healthy body such that the glow of health radiates as a beautiful you. In steps health products and health care products- Eat me one will say, to become slim and trim; drink me, another will declare, to stay fit and happy. Wear me, yet another will state, to burn all your fat and look like Jane Fonda. Choices everywhere and the end result of so many choices? Women, becoming increasingly aware of how to enhance their looks to be at their prettiest.
Beauty products in India have their own unique take on it all: The concept of fairness. As diverse is the culture of this country equally diverse is the variations in the skin tone. However, there is uncanny similarity in the preference for fair skin all across the country. And so there is a platter full of products in offer for every woman to become fair and thus, beautiful. Do they work? Perhaps they do, maybe they don’t. You can only find out by trial and error. But one thing is for sure. You’ll never have a dearth of products to try from and one in those millions to choose from may indeed be the right choice for you.
An emerging trend across the globe now is the foray of what was considered a female domain into the male world. Yes, even men today take pains to groom well and so now there is an entire range in most brands that are dedicated to males, not to mention some brands which are dedicated to only males. Beauty and health care is no longer a female bastion like before. Today it has turned into a unisex field where grooming and personality go hand in hand and your hair gel may just be the difference between getting the dream job or, having to settle for less. So do your homework well, find the product that suits you and be ready to wow the world.
