The best solution to the problem of water leak detection is installing the electronic alarms to the water system which notify the owner of any water leak by producing sound or emitting light. They are placed at those places where there is high probability of any leak to occur like below the toilet tanks or somewhere around the dishwasher. So, by using them leaks can be detected at a very initial stage and a huge loss can be prevented.
Whenever these electronic instruments get in touch with water they produce a sound indicating probability of any leak. The types leak detection instruments can vary in technologies used. Basically there are three types of water leak detection instruments.
1. Passive
2. Active
3. Underground
Passive leak detection instruments are operated on batteries. So, it is important to check there batteries regularly and properly. These instruments have a moisture sensor device attached on them so they can produce alarm even when they are in contact with a single drop of water. Installation of these instruments is very simple and not too much expensive. They are operated on the technology termed as noise acoustic data loggers. If they found any leak in the pipe, it shows higher resistance and also increases the intensity of alarm sound. The only drawback of this technology is that pipe decomposes very faster.
The other type of leak instrument is active one. These instruments are also having an alarming system which works same as passive instruments i.e., whenever a leak is detected it produce an alarming sound. And the unique thing of active instruments is that other than producing just an alarm it also stops the flow of water in the pipe. These instruments can be divided into two sub categories. One is individual and second is whole appliance system. Individual leak detection instruments check leaks from single appliance like washing machine only whereas whole leak detection instrument comprises many moisture sensors.
The third type of leak detection instrument is the underground leak detector. These instruments make use of microphones to hear any leaking sound from underground. It detects the mumbling sound of water if it leaks from any crack or hole.
Another type of leak detection is modified doorbell transformer. Just place it where you have doubt of any leak. Keep the speaker on the wall so that you can hear the alarm sound even when you are far.
So, by using these instruments one can easily detect the leakages in his water system.
