Dating you best friend can be fun and rewarding. And the good news is, since you are dating your best friend in the world, even if things go wrong you still should have a BFF (Best Friend Forever, in street talk).
But beware. Sometimes things may not turn out as you would like, and there are many agony columns and blogs littered with posts from people who have dated their best friend and ended up losing them forever.
Lots of people have seen the movie When Harry Met Sally. It revolves around a man and a woman who were great pals and the vexing issue of whether or not a relationship based on friendship can survive if love and sex (who can forget the "I'll have what she's having" scene!) make an appearance.
Often, men and women set out to become best friends, but gradually this type of relationship deepens into a kind of romantic love. Whether it develops out of a sense of convenience - where one is the other's security blanket - or genuine romantic feelings is irrelevant. The main thing to focus on is your friendship. If it is strong and built on trust and honesty, then asking your best friend on a date should not cause you any unnecessary stress or worry.
If we are talking about man-man or woman-woman friendships, then a lot more tact will be involved in any dating scenarios. If your best pal is openly heterosexual but you have erotic or romantic feelings for him or her, then you must tread more carefully. If you suspect that he or she may have gay, lesbian or at least bisexual tendencies, then it will be easier to act on your emotions and desires. But, in this circumstance, be prepared for some hostility from your best friend if you have guessed incorrectly.
So, let's get back to the woman-man best friend scenario. When is the optimal time to ask your best buddy on a date? Here are some situations where the chances of them saying yes might be a little higher.

A dumb way to approach the dating question is via texting, Facebook or other social media.
The best dating advice here is - be honest and open from the first moment you have any romantic, erotic or sexual interest in your best friend. That way they can tell you immediately where the relationship stands. Try saying something like:
"We have been best friends for so long now. I think I may have some deeper feelings for you. How does that make you feel about me?"
When put it like that, you will definitely get a response one way or the other. Hopefully a positive one.
