If you are a fast growing franchise company, you will be seen as a threat to the industry you are in, especially to all the smaller independents in that industry niche.
In fact, you very well might!
It is this fear, and it is a real fear, that causes a lot of animosity within an industry association.
How do I know this? Well, I am a retired franchisor founder, and I had been previously involved in many industries in the service sector.
Luckily, we were quite competitive ourselves, ruthless in the market place, and I didn't mind being feared and respected, at one point we only care about winning.
Nothing personal, and we warned them in advance.
Still, you need to have friends in the industry and therefore, you need to go to trade shows within your sector and make friends with the vendors, because they wish to sell to you, and therefore, they wish to be allied with you.
So, to do this what I had always done was to go visit the vendors, find out where their regional sales offices were, and where their manufacturing facilities were, and give them two or three leads of our franchisees which might wish to do business with them in the future, and give them certificates of "Approved Vendor" status.
They also warned them of our competitive nature and advised them of how efficient and strong we were.
